Overall, we expect shell disease to be largely absent from wild
populations and when present, at low intensities. In this study,
61.8% of the shell disease cases diagnosed were neither necrotic
nor severe. The shell disease intensity results were consistent with
prevalence results with the exception of dependence on salinity.
The increased intensities with increasing salinity are likely a result
of the higher intensity scores at Rockefeller and the lower intensity
scores at Pontchartrain, which was true when site was retained in
the model instead of salinity
