Advantages
The aesthetics of a refrigerator that runs flush with the cabinetry is one of its pros. The flush-mount design saves about 6 inches of kitchen space, not including any protruding handles. Approximately 6 inches may not seem like a lot, unless you have a small work area, or the fridge faces an appliance, such as a dishwasher or stove with a door that lacks enough room to drop down. A sleek, counter-depth fridge is a less expensive alternative to a custom, built-in unit.

Disadvantages
Be prepared to pay more money for a counter-depth fridge than its protruding counterpart. Although you might find a fridge that sits flush mid-run along the cupboards is more visually appealing, a refrigerator that protrudes a few inches at the end of a run of cabinets may not be such a big deal.
