Those in the contemplation stage are more likely
to recognize the benefits of changing unhealthy
behaviors in the next 6 months, yet they continue
to overestimate the costs of changing, and thus, are
ambivalent and not ready to take action. Contemplators
can remain stuck in this stage for long
periods, substituting thinking for action. Indecision,
low self-efficacy, and lack of commitment are
characteristics of the contemplation stage.
