Job Introduction
The role of Commissioning Editor, Entertainment is at the heart of an exciting and high profile department which unashamedly embraces showbizz and delivering pleasure for just pleasures sake.
BBC Entertainment commissions some of the UK’s best and most loved entertainment programmes and showcases them across all channels and platforms. We deliver more range than any other broadcaster: from live spectacular events and shiny floor studio to talent driven comedy entertainment and factual entertainment. Our content engages and interacts with all of our diverse audiences providing talked about and unmissable television and bringing joy and laughter to everyone.
BBC Entertainment commissioning also play a vital role in developing the most loved on screen talent in the UK, working closely with the TV channels to build a clear direction and strategy for new talent and ideas.
Role Responsibility
You will work on prime time BBC One development and programming. You will work to foster creativity and find new ways to inspire, motivate and influence creative talent and ideas. Reporting to Mark Linsey, Controller of Entertainment Commissioning and working very closely with the channel team, you will help create and deliver to programmes of the highest quality to the heartland BBC One audiences.
The Ideal Candidate
With strong editorial judgment and taste the successful applicant will have an extensive track record in mainstream entertainment development and programmes. You will be innovative and highly effective at managing relationships and dealing with creative risk. You will have experience of developing creative strategies, building and working within a wide range of partnerships and establishing new and exciting approaches to developing big ideas and ambitious formats. Substantial experience of managing on and off screen talent is essential as is the flair and ability to understand the needs of our diverse mainstream audience.
