'Vogue' Creative Director Grace Coddington to Step Down
It’s official — after a 30-year tenure, the legendary Grace Coddington will be stepping down from her post as the creative director of Vogue to assume the role of creative director at-large (think freelance). The iconic stylist joined the American publication in 1988 under the invitation of editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, and the duo went on to form a historic alliance. It won’t be the last we see of Coddington’s work in the pages of Vogue – she is still contracted to produce several (at least four) editorial spreads for the magazine per year.
In her own words, “I’m not running away from Vogue, because it has opened so many doors. But it will be nice to collaborate, and nice to go out [and] give talks to people. It’s just another approach. I’m certainly not going into retirement. I don’t want to sit around.” In her new role, Coddington will be represented by creative super-agency, Great Bowery and upcoming projects will focus on work aside from styling.
