Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to assess biogas
engine viability when being used in a hybrid system as backup
compared to the one using diesel engine. It is also investigated
under which circumstances the use of locally produced biogas is
more feasible. Since using only diesel fuel is one of the most
common solutions for power generation in rural areas, the economics
of this system is needed to be analysed and compared with
the hybrid one. Therefore, a techno-economic analysis of a diesel-powered
system has been performed additionally. Furthermore,
since grid extension is another option for rural electrification, it has
been investigated in brief.
