Regarding Ag ions, which
are non-specific in action as other biocides, they may interact with skin flora, causing the detachment
of the cytoplasmic membrane from the cell wall of healthy bacteria, weakening the skin defense
barrier [128,129]. Furthermore, chronic contact with Ag can lead to deposition of Ag metal/Ag sulfide
particles in skin, inducing its discoloration, known as argyria, or even ocular discoloration, known as
argyrosis. These are not life-threatening conditions, but of course, cosmetically undesirable [128].
