Roses in the wild garden
Species roses are a useful addition to a wild garden. To create a native garden use Rosa canina , the Dog rose or R. arvensis the Field rose, both so commonly seen in our hedgerows. Rosa pimpinellifolia and R. eglanteria with its apple-scented foliage are also native. Roses will attract a manner of insects, including bees and butter-flies but don't forget that they also attract greenfly and caterpillars too.
