Every time I see this film reminds me how barbaric some people can be.
Based on a true story, this was a forerunner of the musical hit. It captures the true essence of two remarkable lives.
this was a true story thats good to know i love this movie
same here what got me into the movie was the animated version I liked to watch it when I was little and I started to watch the real version and I liked it even more
Hate to tell you but most of Mrs Leonowens' Book was exposed as pure fantasy. She barely even got to meet the King.
I believe soooo? but i'm not sure
I am a Broadway child raised in the Rodgers & Hammerstein years. I read the source material as an 8 yr old Child..."Anna & the King" by Mrs. Leonowens...I had no reason to doubt it. But it was the mid-'50s, and musical theatre. Now in 2015, my son lives & teaches in NE Thailand, and I have 2 granddaughters whom I've yet to meet! My Baby Penny (4 yrs old) is half-Irish, half Thai....so beautiful, as is her older sister, Laleita (12yrs old). I'm so blessed to have them in my family. It seems so karmic, ongoing, that "The King & I has been in my life since I was so little and it continues with my son and granddaughters!
