Abstract—3D laser scanning (LS), as a new,
high-level technology of mapping and information,
has undergone drastic development during recent
years, and plays an important role in the
conservation of cultural relics (CR). The paper
summarizes the features of 3D LS technology, and
puts much emphasis on the introduction of its
application in information retention (IR), virtual
restoration (VR) and supervision of CR information.
Finally, it is pointed out that the development and
application of 3DLS technology in the conservation
of geotechnical cultural relics (GCR) should closely
follow the need in cultural relic conservation (CRC).
Besides, the modification and improvement of
hardware and software as well as the integrated
application of related techniques is also the
significant research orientation.
