Senior pitcher Joe McCarty was brillant on a rain-soaked day as he mowed down hitter after hitter allowing only 3 hits to the Bears on his way to a 7 inning shutout victory in just 87 pitches. He also had 5 strikeouts and just one walk as the Knights started off the season with a win.
Leading the offense for St. Andrews were multiple hit games for senior first basemen Daniel Whitecavage and third basemen Michael Luing. Driving in a first inning run with his RBI single was senior Michael Durig as he brought in junior Tyler Radcliff who had walked previously. Whitecavage also scored in the fifth inning on a passed ball.
Game two of the doubleheader was suspended by rain in the bottom of the first inning with Pikeville leading 1-0. It will be resumed tomorrow morning at 11 am while game three of the series will be another 7 inning game beginning at 1 pm at Clark Field.
