Secondly, according to Weierter’s (1997) model, transformational leaders enhance self-efficacy and self-esteem of their followers. Bandura (1977) defines self-efficacy as the belief in one’s ability to successfully execute the behaviour required to produce certain outcomes (p. 193). Applying this definition to a leadership context, Weierter (1997) asserts that followers’ selfefficacy is necessary for maintaining a transformational relationship between followers and leaders.
