Most companies consider the terms Supply Chain management and Logistics to mean the same thing which is not appropriate. Supply Chain Management integrates production, information and cash flows among organizations from the point of origin to the point of consumption with the goal of maximizing consumption satisfaction and minimizing organization costs.
Logistics traditionally takes responsibility for managing the physical flow of products among organizations. Transportation and warehousing were used to ensure that the movement of goods was continuous and reliable. Marketing and sales is responsible for providing information to customers before and after transactions. Finance and accounting is responsible for cash flows among organization. Logistics may not have the control over a firm's cash flow but it certainly has influence over it. Thus, Logistics management is a part of Supply Chain Management.
