Mountains,craters, ancient river beds and lava flows. this is the Martian landscape portrayed in new video to give the viewer the experience of flying over the surface. Images have been taken from a stereographic camera on board the European Space Agency's Mars Express probe. The cammera is made up of nine individual image sensors with each one sweeping the surface from a different angle. The soundtrack created by Stephan Elgner, a member of the mission's mapping team. The satellite has orbited the red planet nearly twelve thousand five hundred time (12,500), building up a digital topography that is almost planet-wide. The Mars Express was launched in june 2003 on a two-year primary mission. It has massively surpassed that and is set to continue to relay data back to Earth until at least the end of 2014
