Roots of tomato became brownish when grown with Cd in the nutrient solution. Whole root Fe reductase activities
decreased when Cd concentration increased in the nutrient solution. Iron reductase activity in control plants was 0.29±0.06 mol Fe reduced g−1 FWh−1. Activities decreased by 38% (to 0.18±0.03 mol Fe reduced g−1 FWh−1) and 62% (to
0.11±0.03 mol Fe reduced g−1 FWh−1) in the 10 and 100M Cd treatments, respectively.
