Determination of total phenolic contentTotal phenolic content
in extracts was determined by using Folin-Ciocalteau reagent based on method of Harborne (1989) with several modifications. Each sample (150 µl, 10 mg/ml) was added with distilled water (1200 µl) and aqueous sodium carbonate, Na2CO3 solution (450 µl). About 100µl of Folin-Ciocalteu reagent was added to the mixture and agitated. The mixture was allowed to stand for 90 minutes and the absorbance was measured at 760 nm by usingUV/visiblespectrophotometer (SpectraMax Plus384, United States). The concentration of total phenolic compunds was calculated based on standard curve of tannic acid (0.2-1.0 mg/ml) and the results were expressed as mg tannic acid equivalent (TAE) per gram of the extracts which resembled a linear equation, y = 0.624x – 0.939, where R2 = 0.995.
