The Lan Na Kingdom was incorporated into the Kingdom of Siam (origin of present Thailand) during the reign of King Chulalongkorn, known as Rama V (1868-1910). Subsequently the administration was reformed and Chiang Mai eventually became a province of Siam. Although foreigners, with logging companies and Christian missionary, has lived in Chiang Mai for sometime, tourism began with the construction of the railway line from Bangkok in 1911. In 1935 a tour was organized to Chiang Mai By train (Prasit Leephrecha, Kwancheewan Bua-dang and Panadda Bunyasaranai 2003).
