Maternal characteristics
Maternal characteristics also affected women’s perceived
satisfaction with care. Maternal age and education was
positively associated with maternal satisfaction, possibly
because of greater experience and maturity [34,42,65].
Studies in Nigeria and Sri Lanka found multiparous
women were more satisfied with care as compared to
primiparae women [30,32]. Maternal satisfaction in
Kenya was also significantly determined by whether the
pregnancy was intended or not [52]. Women’s level of
stress during delivery and in the postpartum period also
significantly influenced satisfaction with care in
Thailand, Taiwan and Nigeria [21,39,65]
