Lodging’s Characteristics and
Design Considerations (cont.)
• By type:
– Resorts require larger rooms, closets and drawer space than city
hotels due to the guests’ longer stay and the great number of
occupants per room;
– Roadside motels sometimes require larger restaurants than other
others for peak periods, i.e. breakfast;
– Casino may require a glittering design;
• Also, similar design concepts may be expressed differently
in each hotel type:
– The pool deck in a resort;
– The sun deck at the ski lodge;
– The commons area at the conference center;
– The tea lounge of the super-luxury hotel; or
– The high-fashion lobby of the boutique hotel.
