MEMS sensors are microelectromechanical systems that
are based on a silicon structure combined with analog
amplification. Recent MEMS sensors have on-chip analog-todigital
converter (ADC) and digital intelligence for
linearization as well as calibration and temperature
compensation [3][4]. These sensors achieve more precision
than conventional accelerometers [5] and a huge size
reduction, allowing their use in embedded systems like
mobile phones, and other handled devices (PocketPC).
It is now a mature technology and it opens new areas of
applications like, for example, shaking the music handled
player in order to shuffle and change the music track being
played, or trigger the airbag system in a car crash or free-fall
