Ofwat (4.10 minute)
The water and sewerage industry economic regulator sets price limits for each Water
Company every five years in a process known as the Periodic Review. This five year period is
also referred to as the AMP (Asset Management Plan period). Prices were set in 2009 for the
period 2010-2015, known as AMP5. Each water company has to submit an Annual Return,
covering its activities to Ofwat; this is known as the June return. This is the primary source of
regulatory information and enables Ofwat to monitor and compare the performance of
different companies. Ofwat uses this information to assess performance against the five
year regulatory contract. The June return also includes information on companies’ service
performance in various areas. The regulator uses this information to publish reports.
