Student Initiated CLD at the Teacher/Student Level
To start the unit of work, a co-design workshop was held where Yvonne shared “the umbrellas”
with students. Together, teacher and students created a shared language and understanding about
their meaning (Hagen et al. 2012). The following excerpt from the classroom transcript shows
how Yvonne and her students identified and defined the topic area, key learning elements and
learning evidence together, as well as the language Yvonne used to position students to make
these decisions about their learning:
