The key principle that underpins the Salters approach is that the ideas and concepts
selected and the contexts within which they are studied, should enhance the
appreciation of students of how science contributes to their lives (Ramsden 1997 ) .
The main concepts are introduced in a drip-feed manner throughout the course and
once introduced are constantly reinforced in different ways (Barber 2000 , p. 11). The
course makes use of a wide range of learning strategies; for example, group discussion,
problem-solving exercise, role play and creative writing (Ramsden 1992 ) .
