In the evening there is a great boon a Laotion concert for which all the people throng together curious to contemplate the French lady who has crossed through haunted territories expansive forests infested with wild animals and the plain of pirates an entire region where these gentle souls dare not venture except in a group. Thus, in the evening, on the kenh, the Laotion organ with bamboo flutes of the Kha Muser, pirates descended from the northwest, the locals improvise stanzas in my honor while we talk about Laos, the Mekong, and the river’s rapids that are awaiting me. The Laotian music gentle and not monotonous, is much more harmonious than Anname music, which is always piercing. Improvising singers and musicians come to make boon (celebration) for the traveler, as they would for any other person they wished to honor. Besides, that person, not any more than the others, is not obliged to listen; one chats, laughs, and amuses oneself. in the end it is boon ,and that is all that is needed. The most original part of what we pompously call the "concert" is a duet 'improvised like all other Laotian Songs. between a young man and a young woman. They are squatting on the ground, as do the listeners. They approach each other with balanced movements and gestures accompanied by chants, turn half around each other , and move minuscule candles that recall sparkling fireworks with their hands, giving this play a gracefulness and originality that is not without charm .
