Confusion and dementia are frequently related to
falls. This may reflect an underlying metabolic or
systemic process as well as dementia. Dementia
predisposes elderly to falls by causing impairment
of judgment, impaired visuospatial perception,
and disorientation. The presence of aberrant
behaviour in the demented patients such as
wandering, trying to climb out of bed, etc may also
predispose them to falls.
