Chiang Khong in the east part of Chiang Rai is a top travel destination and bordercrossing point between Thailand and Laos.
It's the only place in Thailand where you can take a trip up the river to Luang Prabang and Vientienne in Laos.
Chiang Khong has a charming culture and scenic landscape.
A perfect destination to explore for a few days.

Once part of the ancient Chiang Saen kingdom, Chiang Khong's past glory is reflectedin several of its temples.

Continuing south, Wat Phra Kaew is Chiang Khong's oldest temple featuring an ancientjedi believed to house Buddha relics.

A hundred meters from Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Narang also has an ancient jedi.

To the main street, turn right onto the riverpromenade at the corner of Chiang Khong Teak Garden hotel.
In the late afternoon, see the activities on the terrace and the river.
Tourist boats stationed at the border checkpoint take you for a cruise for around 600 baht per hour, promising an insight into life on the river.

Out of town, paved roads lead to valleys and villages, a cycle ride away.
Baan Toong Na Noi village is a Hmongsettlement [an ethnic minority].

Uh, I just arrived in Chiang Khong, two days ago.
Ahh, I have one more night here, before I cross over to Laos Huai Sai, over the friendship bridge.
And Chiang Khong is the only place you can take a slow boat or a speed boat up to Luang Prabang, so I will take the slow boat and go over there the day after tommorrow.
I hired a scooter and had a look at some of the temples.

I went down to the friendship bridge.
You can actually go underneath the friendship bridge and take a few photos.
And then if you head north out of town, there are some beautiful view points with temples as well, where you can see the Mekong, lovely sunset. Again, fantastic,beautiful.
