In 2006, the lowest emerging lot was 8 and the highest one was 5 in LTE, MSEand SSE sowings (table 2). Again, several lots in all three stress environments showeddifferences in emergence that were significant (p<0.05).Six months storage at 25°C resulted in a fall in germination in all 9 lots in 2005, mostnotably for lots 1, 3, 7 and 9 (table 2 compared with table 1). In lot 1, six months storagereduced viability to 6% while, in some lots, such as 2, 4 and 6, there was little reductionfrom the initial germination ( 1%, lot 2; 9% , Lot 4).In both years, the controlled deterioration (CD) test produced a wide range ofgermination percentages amongst the seed lots, indicating considerable differences in seedvigour (table 3). The smallest range at both moisture contents (20 and 24%) at the sametemperature in both years was observed for 48 hours. As the duration, temperature andseed moisture content during the test were increased, the germination spread betweenthe lots also increased (table 3). Additionally, there was a gradual decrease in the meangermination of all lots as the controlled deterioration period and moisture content increased(table 3).
