Ultra durable bags and cases for the iPhone, iPad, and iPad Mini made from discarded rubber tire inner tubes
Why Tires?
Discarded rubber tires and inner tubes are among the largest and most problematic sources of waste worldwide. Tires are made to be incredibly strong and long lasting, which is great for the operation of a vehicle but a nightmare when it comes to recycling. Mechanically breaking down a tire to be recycled is difficult, costly, and requires the burning of fossil fuels. Tires placed in landfills or stockpiles create a great health risk by polluting the nearby air and water. This is a huge problem when you consider that tires are one of the most frequently replaced parts of any vehicle.
Luckily every yin has a yang. The same strength and durability that makes these items difficult to recycle, makes them ideal for repurposing into something new.
The Process
We've built relationships with recycling centers and scrap dealers that can provide used rubber tire inner-tubes before they are melted or shredded. Despite the fact that this material is sold in very large and costly bulk orders, we were able to obtain a small sample to create our prototypes.
