Introduction
The seven million freshwater ornamental fish
imported into Australia each year are subject
to a quarantine period of at least 7 to 14 days,
depending on the species. The occurrance of
parasites in ornamental fish imported into
Australia has been well documented
(Humphrey, 1995). We aimed to determine the
prevalence of some of these parasites in fish
released from quarantine and in a subsequent
exercise evaluate the risks they posed to Australian
native fauna.
