NARCOTICS: Almost 50kg of a substance found inside two sacks washed up on a beach in Rayong in June is crystal methamphetamine worth more than 100 million baht, authorities confirmed yesterday.
According to Phuchong Saritteechaikun, director of the Marine and Coastal Resources Centre in Rayong, local residents discovered the two sacks with Chinese characters on them on Mae Ramphung beach in Muang district on June 23.
Mr Phuchong said the sacks contained many small plastic bags with white powder in them. The substance was sent for lab tests and yesterday the results came back positive for crystal meth.
Authorities, including Narcotics Control Board staff, picked up the sacks and had the contents examined.
The Chinese characters on the sacks indicated they belonged to a Chinese swine feed company in Guangdong province, added the police.
