Psychiatric nurses have described the spiritual dimension as difficult to capture in patient–nurse relationships (Koslander & Arvidsson 2005). These nurses identified the need for more knowledge on the spiritual dimension and its importance for patient well-being whereas the clinical environment of the rehabilitation nurse allowed relationships
to form between patients, families and nurses (Gebhardt 2008). The rehabilitation nurses described spiritual caring as respect, support and building a relationship. In general, these nurses had a strong sense of personal spirituality which influenced their nursing practice through being more spiritually focused.
