Influence of wastewater quality on disinfection efficiency
The experimental results obtained at pilot scale on different wastewater effluents confirm the
efficiency of ozone for wastewater disinfection (Figures 1). Depending on the quality of the
effluent, a transferred ozone dose (TOD) of between 2 and 15 mg L-1 was necessary to meet the
WHO standard for irrigation (1000 E.coli/100 mL). For secondary effluents with poor quality
and high TSS and COD, more stringent requirements would be difficult to consistently meet
