Buckingham Palace
London is terrific! We've been here for 3 days now. Today the family spent the day exploring Buckingham Palace. We all had a great time.
There was something interesting for everyone. It wasn't boring at all. The boys thought the Changing of the Guard was the most exciting thing. They especially loved the red uniforms and tall black hats. Tom now wants his own horse and sword!
Annie and I spent two hours in the Queen's Gallery admiring some of the world's most valuable art. We were lucky to see an exhibition of fine 16th century paintings.
While we were at the palace, Nick took the children to the Royal Mews, where they saw the Royal Stables and the Gold State Coach that's used at coronations. I had not thought that the palace would be so interesting until we started touring.
We're going shopping at Harrod's in the morning, so I must get some sleep now.
Good morning! I'm your tour guide, Jean, and I'd like to welcome you to the famous State Rooms of Buckingham Palace.
The Royal family has three official homes. Buckingham Palace is the Queen's official London residence.
Did you notice the Royal Standard outside? That means the Queen is here now.
If you look out the window, you will see the beautiful 40-acre garden and lake. These State Rooms have some fine antique furniture and works of art from the Royal collection.
This is the Throne Room. It looks the same as it did a hundred years ago.
Later today we will also see the Silk Tapestry Room and the State Dining Room, where kings and queens have dined for centuries.
