Anaerobic digestions of pretreated OPMF and CM seeded with POME are feasible and stable processes. The anaerobic codigestion boosted biogas production and achieved stable performances of anaerobic digestions. The biodegradation of the substrate shows that the mixtures in sample D perform better since it has the highest percentage lignin removal of 37.3% compared to 35.2% in sample B and 26.6% in sample C. The pretreated OPMF co-digested with CM gave a higher and better digester performance and higher biogas production. The methane generation for the digesters R1–R4 was found to be 63, 46, 35 and 31% while in total biogas were 0.12, 0.07, 0.04, and 0.02, respectively. Therefore, results showed that codigestion of OPMF with CM inoculated with POME could be one of the options for efficient biogas production and sustainable waste management.
