Most parents who get a call from the teacher are expecting the worst. Imagine their delight when you inform them you are calling to let them know how well their child is doing. If you make a point to call parents occasionally to tell them something positive about their child, they will be much more receptive when a phone contact is less than glowing. If it’s a challenge to find something positive to report, remember that calling about any improvement in behavior or academic performance, no matter how small, can be encouraging. For example, “Brandon participated more in history class today than yesterday. I am hoping this is a positive trend that will continue. Please let him know I appreciate the improvement”
