Implications
Broiler mortality during transport to the slaughterhouse represents
a production loss at the cornerstone of modern poultry
production economical realities and ethical preoccupations.
Animals dead on arrival (DoA) are jointly an indicator of animal
health and welfare and an economic loss that should be minimized
in the interests of the farmers and slaughterhouses.
Better knowledge of the factors influencing the DoA rate is
therefore of utmost importance for all professionals, to determine
the respective roles and responsibilities and identify ways
of improvement.
