After reading in the press yesterday about the Nomates claim against Slim & Beauty, I discussed details with Aisha Bashir over the phone. Aisha has confirmed that Norman Nomates has filed a suit against both Slim & Beauty and Morpheus. The case is extremely sensitive and is being handled by her in conjunction with their local legal counsel, Habermehl and Associates and the Morpheus legal department.
Based on preliminary discussions with Nomates, the company believes that Nomates’ case is based on inconclusive evidence. Furthermore, if the elliptical trainer he used did cause his injuries, it would be because of a fault in that particular machine. Morpheus has years of research by independent medical experts supporting their equipment. Despite the claim having no substance, it is believed that Nomates has a lot of contacts in the media, and to date has managed to use some of these contacts to his advantage. Ms. Bashir expects that both companies will reach a settlement out of court to prevent further media attention. The total expected settlement is approximately MU5million, which will be shared equally by Slim & Beauty and Morpheus.
To Ms Bashir’s knowledge, there are no other claims against Slim & Beauty.
