Towards the end of the calendar year, we typically experience an increase in phishing activity. Criminals pretending to be Booking.com reach out to our customers and partners either via email, phone or fake websites, fraudulently attempting to obtain sensitive information and/or to collect payment.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of what you can do to protect yourself and your business from these attacks.
What is happening?
Via a link in a phishing email, you may be prompted to go to a fake website, which appears just like Booking.com or the login page to your Extranet. Some of these fake websites might ask you to provide your Booking.com Extranet account name and password, as well as the password for the email address that is connected to your Booking.com account.
Booking.com will never ask you for any passwords or sensitive information by any means. Do not provide this information to anyone, either online or over the phone. Remember, protecting the security of your Extranet login credentials and email address is your responsibility.
What can you do to protect yourself?
· When signing in to your Extranet, always check for a green padlock in your browser address bar with the Booking.com B.V. security certificate.
· Webpages for our Extranet always begin with https://admin.booking.com.
Do not enter your password on any website that does not contain the green Booking.com B.V. security certificate and the correct starting link https://admin.booking.com.
If you suspect that you've received a fraudulent e-mail that appears to be from Booking.com, please do not to respond. Never click on any link that seems suspicious, do not open any attachments, do not follow instructions in the email or provide any personal information. Instead, please do the following:
1. Forward the email, including the header, to report@booking.com.
2. Delete the email.
3. Change your password immediately and monitor your account for any misuse.
If you receive a request via phone to share your password or any other sensitive data, do not do so.
What additional actions are we taking?
· We ask to have fake sites removed.
· We contact affected properties and guests ASAP.
· We are constantly innovating our platform and processes to provide the utmost levels of security for partner and customer data.
We ask you to remain vigilant and please alert any of your staff to the potential phishing threat. Make sure that security is top of mind for anyone who has access to your password(s) to your Booking.com Extranet.
With kind regards,
The Booking.com Team
