In other neotropical, high diversity forests, Lindblad (2001a)
found 86 species of polypores on 270 logs in nine plots in three
forest types, and 69 species of polypores on 240 logs in four plots in
two forest types, both studies after four field trips to tropical forests
in Costa Rica. Gilbert et al. (2002) collected 43 species in five
transects (500 10 m) after one field trip to a tropical forest in
Panama. These values of richness are lower than those observed by
us, but their sampling was also lower.
