The roles of testing, inspection, and preventive maintenance (PM) will significantly
decrease. Devices and systems will continue to require testing and inspection upon
installation. However, routine testing and inspection on devices and systems where it
has been demonstrated that the test/inspection results never vary is questionable, both
in value and in the use of limited resources. Medical technology has become sufficiently
reliable that visual inspections, operational checks, and monitoring of selfdiagnostics
by technical staff and users will largely replace traditional forms of
inspection, testing, and PMs
