For Cu content determinations,
whole juvenile individuals were rinsed three times with
filtered seawater, sonicated for 30 s, and divided in two parts.
One was treated for 10 min in a solution of 3 × 10−3 M EDTA
dissolved in 0.6 M KCl at pH 8 (Knauer et al., 1997; Vasconcelos
and Leal, 2001), to remove any externally adsorbed copper and
most of the inorganic complexes bound to the surface.
