Fig. 7 presents the pressure-time histories in a vessel for various values of pv. In the current study, no significant pressure peaks can be detected for pv 1⁄4 0 kPa, as shown in Fig. 7a. The reason may be that the rate of volume production by combustion nearly equals that due to venting, so the pressure in vessel remains nearly unchanged. However, whether pressure peaks can be detected for pv 1⁄4 0 kPa depends on experimental parameters such as vent area and burning rate of gas mixtures. For example, multiple pressure peaks were detected by Rocourt et al. (2014) when a stoichiometric hydrogen-air mixture was used in a small cubic vessel.
