In the case of canola biodiesel, the high acidity can be reduced if the crude oil, which had an acidity of 2.4%, receives a pretreatment to reduce its acidity to around 0.8%, which was the acidity of the degummed soybean oil. As discussed earlier, it is important to have a certain acidity in the oil so that the methodology developed in this work is adequate to separate glycerol using membranes.
