Three of the seven teachers interviewed responded that they did not know or were unsure how to define reasoning. For example one teacher said "I don't know a lot to do ith the understanding behind the mathematical concepts" (Fay Another teacher said, "I think reasoning is more about having some of the information and, yeah I'm not sure (Elizabeth). A third teacher said mathematical thinking and reasoning in my head, they mean the same thing... I really don't know how to explain that" (Grace).
