Focusing on the technology issue, there are several
concerns when it comes to applying the AT to waste
management systems. Specifically, the AT must meet the
basic needs of all stakeholders, must meet technical requirements
and standards, must be flexible enough to work
in different situations and locations of the city at all levels,
must meet local capabilities in terms of local resources, and
must be affordable by the city. These concerns are very
challenging constraints for many cities, including Bangkok.
Addressing these concerns when applying technology
transfer mechanisms for waste management systems is
more important and complicated than selecting the proper
technology to apply to a waste management process.
Technological advances typically have had a two-sided
impact on the environment: one, they have intensified
the use of natural resources, and two they have modified or
lessened the impact [36].
