A state certified PE teacher with 23 years
teaching experience delivered the majority of the classes
(-80% of total sessions) to the participants in the study.
In her absence, the class was conducted by another state
certified teacher. Each PE class was about 30 minutes
in duration with the following structure: five minutes
for warm-up, 20-minute exercise program, and five
minute cool down. The focus of the 20-minute exercise
program was on general aerobic conditioning to include
activities such as skipping, jogging, jump roping, and
galloping. The participants also performed various
stretches and abdominal breathing exercises, and played
games that provided upper extremity exercise and general
strengthening. In a few classes dance was performed to
increase body awareness and movement.
