She spent a whole day back packing with her two dogs, Jackson and Hailey, and fighting the bitter cold. She finally settled down at when the night-time came, ate a bite with her dogs, and finally went to sleep. It wasn't until the next morning that she had realized that she had not thought about any of her problems and she was actually happy for the first time in a long time. She wasn't thinking about bills, or deadlines, or man that was in her life. She was taken by the perfections of nature and hopeful once more of the day to come.
The author, Pam Houston created such a reality of the way that depression can affect a person. She had created a scenario of depression when the character stated, "everybody is happy, except me."(Reading Literature and Writing Argument, p239).
