IV. PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
A. Performance Metrics
In this section, the performance evaluation of the farm area network (FAN) architecture where data aggregation with hop- by-hop is given. There are N wind turbines connected in a linear topology as shown in Fig. 8. The distance between the turbines are the same and equal to (d) meters. The communication occurs only between the neighbor turbines using the relay nodes in a hop-by-hop manner. The base station is located at the offshore substation. The sensing data at each turbine is gathered and combined into a single data packet at the coordinator node. The coordinator node sends the data packet to the relay node which forward it in a hop-by-hop manner to the neighbor WTs in order to reach the BS. This data aggregation method on the relay node decrease the number of data packets flowing and represents a minimum energy consumption for the sensor nodes.
