Jamie gave him lessons now. There were still things to learn. He needed a partner to try to catch him by surprise, to train his reflexes. The best swordsman of the clan came to spar with them both. 'Together you're invincible!' he laughed, only just dodging in time as Conn's left handed thrust nearly nicked him. 'Anyone who jumps out Jamie's way will get Conn's broadsword in the neck from the other side!'
He didn't keep the sword up on the hill with the cattle ant more. Instead, he spent many of his evening hours polishing it until it flowed bright as moonlight.
'Keep it safe,' his cousin had warned.
He kept it safe. And sharp.
And hidden.
He didn't know how important that was to be.
