you are of a fact or idea, put yourself in a neutral corner by starting with a tentative mark like " I may be wrong, but as I see it ? " or " Don't you think that ? " Notice the differences . If you had instead said, " I believe that . " you would have put you self into a tight corner. Then if your listener said' "I don't" agree with you. " you would have had to come out fighting."
Benjamin Franklin used this technique to avoid arguments and increase his standing with his friends. In his Autobiography he discussed the fact that bold assertion leads to argument, whild more modest remark lead to discussion
